Pre-school Newsletter (Kirkby) – October 2013

Please click here to view the October newsletter for our newly refurbished pre-school room. Please remember to let us have your comments and feedback.

We are implementing a new system to ensure all parents and carers get weekly statement of account – listing all fees and any payments made. These are being sent out from today – if you have any queries please email or ask for Leanne when you are next at the nursery. Members of staff will be approaching you for all email addresses (if we do not already have them) so we can email those statements to you each week. Please bear with us while we get this right!

Parkland’s Kirkby receives an award recognising its work on speech and language at the nursery

We are really pleased to announce that Parkland’s Kirkby has achieved the Enhanced I CAN Early Talk award on 16th October 2013. The award recognises the work the nursery is able to do to enhance children’s early language development. Further information about I CAN can be obtained from their website:

A copy of the full feedback report is available from Sara and Emmah if any parent wishes to read it in full. You can also download it by clicking this link: I CAN enhanced award report. Some of the really positive feedback from the assessors who visited the setting includes:

“There is a good skill mix within the nursery and a teacher has been recently employed”

“Children who require additional support are identified quickly and the nursery has 3 SENCos in place to ensure that IEPs are put in place”

“A range of techniques are used to introduce key vocabulary to children such as teaching programmes like Blast programme, circle time and key person time”

“The outside continuous provision is a particular strength of this setting”

“Children within the setting are very confident and secure”

“The setting provides individualised planning to support children’s development at their own rates”

Ofsted Inspection – we were awarded a GOOD rating!

Fantastic news – Parklands Nursery had its full Ofsted inspection just before Christmas. Ofsted are responsible for visiting nurseries and checking how well they are implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) revised September 2012. This revised EYFS has been made a much tougher challenge and Parklands was awarded a GOOD. The report makes no requirements and has only 2 minor recommendations.

Key findings:

  • All the staff team have a good knowledge of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and plan a wide range of activities to promote children’s learning.

  • The manager and directors are committed to quality improvement and the development of the staff to support children’s learning. They carry out regular meetings at all levels to ensure staff have the support they need.

  • Children are engaged and happy to learn in a friendly environment. They show good levels of independence and communicate enthusiastically with staff.

  • Relationships between staff and parents are good and parents feel that they are kept fully informed about their child’s progress.

The full report is available on the Ofsted website:

Legoland with the Pre School Children

Babies are stil considering where they would like to go so if you have any good ideas please talk to any of the nursery staff.

Food Hygiene

We have been awarded Five Stars by Environmental Health!

Staff are clear that the good health of children is central to the operation of the nursery and we encourage health eating at every opportunity. Our cook Marg makes healthy homemade meals, taking into account the specialist nutritional requirements of young children.  Parents often comment on how the children love the meals they have at nursery and often quiz the cook on her recipes.

We have a fruit bowl in our reception area so children can take a piece of fruit on their way home as part of the five-a- day healthy eating programme and we operate Knowsley Primary Care Trust’s ‘Supervised Tooth Brushing Programme’ and promote good hygiene practices.

How to help your child at home

We offer many acitivitiers and learning experiences in the nursery but we recognise that working together with parents and carers gives children the best possible life chances. We have a display on the Parent’s Noticeboard in the entrance corridor of the nursery which we will update regulary with good ideas, hints and tips.

You can also reinforce the work we do with children at our nursery by sharing with us information about your children’s interests, strengths and needs. This will help us to plan experiences and activities that will capture their interests and fire their imagination and enthusiasm.

Please talk to any member of staff or your child’s key worker.
